A brightly colored woven tapestry created by Joel Mertz. The pattern consists of numerous squares and rectangles. The tapestry is lying on grass.

From my first (and only) experience in weaving, I learned there is a certain methodology involved with the craft that requires an immense amount of patience. Using a manual table loom, I created this piece over three trying months. Each row of color built up slowly, and it was always imperative to plan ahead. Undoing any work took a considerable amount of time. I enjoyed how the final product exposed the handwork so transparently. It can be seen in the details and many imperfections of each shape.
